Delightful face depicting sorrow on one side and joy on the other. Colorful detail with Mardi Gras style colors of purple, green, pink and blue. Measures approximately 3 3/4". Made of mouth-blown, hand painted glass by skilled artisans.
These opposing masks which are fixed in expressions of joy and sorrow originated in Ancient Greece. Together they represent the tragedies and comedies of our lives, and the fate of man in the drama of life. Today they also are symbols of the theater and the dramatic arts.
